It’s impossible to summarize the making of a CD that took 7 years to finish, and during
the recording I found "The Girl" and made her my wife, watched my first child being born, and
my mother die. For me there's a lot more to this album than what can be heard through
speakers - the best days of my life.... and the worst! This is the most self-exposing album I
have ever done, or will probably ever do again.

I get somewhat scared at the thought of other people listening to this album because it
is so revealing. Since my last album, DIRT POET, expressed so much hurt, I really wanted to
go a different direction this time. That seemed to open up a door to my spiritual side. It's hard
talking about your faith when you know how much that subject turns many people off, and
I've had this inner battle for years now. But I've finally decided to just let it out regardless who
it makes feel uncomfortable (including me). I still think you'll find that it was done with a great
deal of subtlety and sensitivity. I didn't make this album for Christians, or non-Christians. I
made it for everyone! I'm not a preacher - just a guy who got tired of NOT writing songs about
the thing that means the most to him.

Although the very first tracks for this album were recorded in early of 1994, I didn't of-
ficially decide to make an all acoustic album until May of 1997. "Woodsongs" is a collection a
various recordings I have put together over the last few years with the concept of using ab-
solutely NO electric instruments or digital effects (with one exception... a meletron).

"Woodsongs" was recorded in so many different studios, homes, apartments, and base-
ments over the last few years it's hard to remember them all. Some of the editing was even
done in my tent during a camping trip. More importantly it includes collaborations with some
of my closest friends. You'll hear all kinds of musicians and instruments on this CD - french
horns, latin percussion, lots of cellos, harpsichords, and a single person performing all the
parts to make a 20 piece orchestra (thanks to my wife). I met Sarah when trying to find string
players for this album, but I married her first.... then we worked on the album.

This album has camping trips, long-term friendships, the ever present hand of God, many
laughs, love, death, marriage, and a baby girl. I hope you enjoy it.
